The first week after our semester break started with a bang. Our class went on a trip, and for a change, not on nature trips on a river or a mountain. And this time, it's not even within Germany! We walked the streets of affluence in Europe and enviable quality of life in the world, that is Geneva. Here we rubbed elbows with the hotshots from the United Nations (UN) offices, World Trade Organization (WTO), and the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
It must have been a subtle treat of our program committee and DAAD. The trip let us experience, even just for three days, to walk the halls of power- all-expense-paid, save for lunch and beers. It has become an annual event for first year students of my programme to travel to Geneva. This gave us a peek to what we could be in the future. Who knows, maybe for some, no more than two years from now.

Anyway, this post about all those UN agencies is amazing! It's a dream for anyone in the social sciences to actually set foot in there, much more actually join fora and conferences.

I never thought myself that I will find mysel in this corner of the world, and rub elbows with the powerful, or at least in their office.
Just a tip: if you want to get in one of those international organizations, it would help if you speak French. Try learning now. It's never too late.
