The end of my second semester is fast approaching and I am thinking of traveling to Italy. Foremost in my plan is to go to Rome for a week. I emailed my Italian lecturer for some tips in Venice and Florence. He warned of 'Ferragosto,' the time of the year when 'normal' Italians themselves go on a holiday. They call it 'Augustloch' here in Germany, meaning August 'hole'. This gives me second thoughts of flying to Italy. I imagine tourists swarming in the Sistine Chapel and piazzas with no Italians in sight. I will ask around and if Ferragosto is not bad enough, I will consider even going to Venice and Florence. Otherwise, I will just stay here in Freiburg and do some research. Seriously.
